Katy and Rebecca Beinart: Memory Preservation Salts

A happy coincidence! The Beinarts’ great-grandfather was head of a salt company. They resurrected the company, creating Memory Preservation Salts with salt harvested by hand from the same salt pans Woolf Beinart used in South Africa. The salts were offered to participants in exchange for memories or stories from their own family history.

My granddad inherited the family shoe business. Before looking at Captain James Cook, I considered my great-grandfather, the business and his move to South Africa to establish a branch out there, of which I have photographs of and the leather trunk. There’s also lots of photographs and articles of the business throughout its life in Stockton-On-Tees. I’ll keep the Beinart’s work in mind when I come to revisit it.
